Hackfest Ideas

11 PM May 7, 2003

I've been toying with getting together a group of fellow computer-geeks sometime later this year for a Day Of Hacking.

Right now, I'm looking for ideas. The key words are Quick, Cool, Fun and Nerdy. Here are some initial thoughts (the better ideas are from my friends):

  • Pick up a Java workflow framework one of my friends is developing and build something with it.
  • Put together a charity website.
  • Build a simple application from components in ten different languages.
  • Work out the best way to write EJBs in Jython or Kawa.
  • Learn a new language - Scheme, Ruby, CAML, Smalltalk?
  • Write a 2D game in PyGame.
  • Everybody writes a program to the same spec. Every 30 minutes, we all stand up and move one computer to the left.

What do you think? What would you do?
