Found this paper, by Robin Sharp, at Software Reality. It goes into some detail about the current state of Java. In particular, the non-OO-ness of J2EE. I found it to be quite complementary to Marc Fleury’s Why I Love EJB‘s.

Both papers acknowledge that the J2EE spec evolves, not with real world experience, but with the bleeding-edge, theoretical wonderings of the industry techno-vangelists and conference speakers. Both Robin and Marc go on to provide alternate solutions, though Marc has stayed more main-stream than Robin.
