Programming Fonts

Simon Brunning recommends Andale Mono as a programming font. I’ve been using it in Eclipse for a few days now, and I really quite like it.

The origins and usage of Andale Mono has an interesting legal history, but you can currently download it from SourceForge.

I am amazed that there aren't good programmer's fonts for WinXX. On the Mac I always used MPW (which was just Monaco with nice fat braces and semi-colons for clarity), and have never found anything that matched it on Win. I generally use Lucida Console in Eclipse, but I have to turn off any bolding for keywords and such as LC Bold has a different char-width as there is no proper Bold variant.

Anywayy, just downloaded Andale, and I MUCH prefer LC. LC has a shorter line height, and seems much clearer to my eye. The distinction between braces and brackets is more distinct, and it still doesn't have a bold var of the same char width.

The hunt continues...

Look at the HVRASTER font system. Miles ahead of anything in Windows. You can download it from brothersoft.com. Also PROFONT is not bad. FidexSys is best of Windoze fonts but thats not saying much.
